A Friend in Vilnius: Jazz Debut Worth the Wait

A Friend in Vilnius is a cross-border jazz quartet whose debut album 'When We Meet' captures the soul of musical friendship in motion. Recorded in 2023 and released on One Dot Rec, this 39-minute journey blends European jazz sensibility with warmth, restraint, and genuine emotional depth.

A Jazz Debut That Moves Like a Road Trip

Featuring saxophonist Donatas Petreikis from Lithuania alongside three Danish musicians, the group creates jazz that feels unhurried and deeply conversational. The bassist drives the rhythm while the guitarist and saxophonist paint layered, quietly melancholic textures. Standout track 'In Some Way' is a highlight of the year in European jazz — two voices, one thought, beautifully intertwined.

Key Takeaways

This debut from One Dot Rec's newest jazz act is balsam for the soul — 39 minutes of music that rewards repeat listening. If this is where A Friend in Vilnius begins, the world needs more from them soon.
